On June 19, 2023, the Oils4Cure project succeeded in capturing the attention of the European Commission committee responsible for evaluating more than 600 projects across the continent — no small achievement — after just over a year of continuous work managing the EIC Accelerator grant under the Horizon Europe Programme.
The trust placed in Oils4Cure by the Commission, through the Grant First modality, will enable the biotech start-up to launch the first of its clinical trials authorized by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices (AEMPS). Specifically, the trial aims to demonstrate the efficacy of the investigational drug YCJ-01 in the treatment of refractory epilepsy associated with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC), a rare autosomal dominant disease in which a high percentage of patients experience epilepsy, and more than half go on to develop refractory (treatment-resistant) epilepsy.
The trial is expected to begin imminently, before the end of 2023, with completion anticipated by the end of 2025. If everything proceeds as planned, the company expects to initiate commercialization of the drug between the third and fourth quarters of 2026.
